A chaotic brawl that erupted at UFC 322 inside Madison Square Garden has now drawn the attention of New York City mayor Eric Adams, who vowed that those involved will face consequences. Although UFC CEO Dana White confirmed he wasn’t pressing charges against Dillon Danis or others involved, that does not prevent law enforcement from pursuing the matter.
The incident involved Dillon Danis and several members of Islam Makhachev’s team, with tensions escalating into a full-blown fight in the crowd. Danis was eventually escorted out of the arena, but no arrests were made on the night.
“These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable,” Adams wrote on social media. “The NYPD is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.” Before entering politics, Adams spent 22 years with the NYPD, adding weight to his promise.
Dana White later admitted he made a mistake by allowing Danis to remain in the arena despite being warned of a potential conflict.
“They told me Dillon Danis was here and sitting in fighters’ seats. They asked, ‘Do you want us to throw him out?’ I said, ‘He has a ticket? Let him sit in his seat and keep an eye on him.’ It never crossed my mind that Islam’s entire crew was sitting in the first rows,” White said. “As soon as it broke out, I knew exactly what it was.”
Despite banning Danis from all future UFC events, White confirmed that the UFC is not pursuing legal action. However, Adams appears determined to move forward with a police investigation, which could lead to charges against individuals involved in the melee.
Adams, whose term ends in January when Zohran Mamdani takes office, made it clear that the NYPD is treating the brawl as a serious incident.
With most of those involved being fighters but not necessarily under UFC contract, it remains to be seen what legal consequences could follow.
