Francis Ngannou isn’t buying into the hype around Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira — because in his eyes, the real mega-fight is still him vs. Jon Jones.
In a recent interview with TMZ, the former UFC heavyweight champion was asked which potential matchup would be bigger for the rumored UFC event at the White House: Jones vs. Pereira, or Jones vs. Ngannou.
Ngannou didn’t hesitate.
“You know the answer, you don’t need me for that,” he said with a smile. “Should I answer? Do you really need me to answer?”
Since leaving the UFC in early 2023, “The Predator” has competed just twice in MMA — but he’s remained one of the sport’s biggest global stars. After defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 to retain the heavyweight title, Ngannou walked away from the UFC following contract disputes and signed with the PFL, where he demolished Renan Ferreira in his 2024 debut.
Now 39, Ngannou says his fighting future will become clearer soon, but he made it clear that his dream fight hasn’t changed — and it’s not with anyone else but Jones.
“Biggest fight of all-time can only happen with Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou,” Ngannou declared. “That’s all I can say. No disrespect to other fights or fighters — I respect them all — but if you want the biggest of all-time, you make it biggest.”
Ngannou also emphasized that the setting doesn’t matter — whether it’s in Madison Square Garden or even at the White House itself — the magnitude of him vs. Jones would transcend the sport.
“I became a world champion in the APEX with no crowd,” Ngannou said. “It’s not about the place, it’s about what the fight means. And a fight with Jon Jones… that’s history.”
With Jon Jones teasing a potential showdown with Alex Pereira at the White House event, fans are split — but one thing’s for sure: if the UFC ever makes Ngannou vs. Jones happen, it could redefine what “superfight” truly means.
