After years of controversy, Conor McGregor says he’s finally found peace — and promises that his long-awaited comeback will be something truly special.
The former two-division UFC champion hasn’t stepped inside the octagon since July 2021, when he broke his leg in a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, McGregor has remained a constant headline figure — for everything from Hollywood fame to politics and legal battles.
Now, at 37 years old, McGregor insists that he’s a changed man. Speaking at a BKFC press conference in Italy, “The Notorious” opened up about a spiritual transformation that he says has reignited his competitive fire.
“For sure, I am not here just by chance,” McGregor said. “There is a higher power, God, that dictates my journey and all of our journeys, and I live my life by God’s word. Since around that time that you mentioned at that last event, I’ve engaged in a spiritual journey, and I’m saved. I am healed. On the back of that, the world is in for a treat.”
McGregor went on to explain that he’s been focusing inward, regaining his motivation and hunger for competition.
“My competitive spark that was once in my heart is now a roaring blaze,” he said. “I’m eager to get back, and right now I have to dial myself in — and that I’ve done. I’m very, very excited to come back my own self.”
McGregor’s comeback, however, continues to face hurdles. Earlier this year, Combat Sports Anti-Doping confirmed that McGregor is serving an 18-month suspension for failing to disclose his whereabouts for testing on three separate occasions. He was also previously scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in 2024, but withdrew due to a broken toe.
Despite setbacks, BKFC founder David Feldman praised McGregor for turning his life around, calling him an inspiration for making difficult personal changes.
“A lot of people in the world need to make changes and they don’t because they don’t have the guts,” Feldman said. “Conor did. You’re going to see the best Conor McGregor you’ve ever seen when he returns to the octagon.”
McGregor has recently hinted at a return during the planned UFC White House event on June 14, 2025 — though Dana White denied that the fight has been finalized.
Still, one thing is clear: McGregor’s story isn’t over. As he put it — “I’m saved. I’m healed. And the world is in for a treat.” 🍀🔥
