Could Jon Jones be rooting for Ciryl Gane this weekend?
Ahead of his heavyweight title showdown with Tom Aspinall at UFC 321, Gane believes he might have an unexpected supporter — none other than the man who dominated him at UFC 285.
Speaking to Full Send MMA, Gane said that despite being the underdog, he thinks Jones could be quietly pulling for him.
“Maybe, because I think Tom disrespected him a little bit,” Gane said. “So maybe he’s going to be on my side. Maybe, but yes, he retired, now it’s our turn, and we will see this Saturday.”
Aspinall had been calling for a fight with Jon Jones for over a year before the UFC legend retired in June, paving the way for Gane to step back into title contention. Jones has since teased a return for the historic White House UFC event planned for 2026, possibly against Alex Pereira.
Gane, who was submitted by Jones in just over two minutes, says he’s grown from that experience and feels more complete than ever heading into UFC 321.
“I learned a lot from this fight, really,” Gane said. “I fixed a lot of things, and my mindset is different now. That’s why I don’t feel pressure — I just focus on my job and my love for competition.”
Despite entering as a 3-to-1 underdog, Gane insists that he’s ready to shock the world — and maybe even earn a nod of approval from Jon Jones himself.
